About Course

The course is designed for students who are planning to take the corresponding certification exam, or those who are interested in obtaining an introduction to Microsoft security, compliance, and identity solutions.

This course provides foundational level knowledge on security, compliance, and identity concepts and related cloud-based Microsoft solutions.

Course Content

Module 1. Describe security and compliance concepts
After completing this module, you’ll be able to describe the shared responsibility model and the defense-in-depth security model, explain the Zero Trust model, understand the concepts of encryption and hashing, and describe basic compliance concepts.

Module 2. Describe identity concepts
After completing this module, you’ll be able to understand the difference between authentication and authorization, describe the concept of identity as a security perimeter, and explain identity-related services.

Module 3. Describe the function and identity types of Microsoft Entra ID
After completing this module, you’ll be able to describe the core functionality of Microsoft Entra ID, explain the types of identities it supports, and describe the concept of hybrid identity as supported by Microsoft Entra ID.

Module 4. Explore the authentication capabilities of Microsoft Entra
After completing this module, you’ll be able to describe the authentication methods of Microsoft Entra ID, explain multifactor authentication in Microsoft Entra ID, and describe its password protection and management capabilities.

Module 5. Explore the access management capabilities of Microsoft Entra
After completing this module, you’ll be able to describe Conditional Access and its benefits, explain Global Secure Access, and describe Microsoft Entra ID roles and role-based access control (RBAC).

Module 6. Describe the identity protection and governance capabilities of Microsoft Entra
After completing this module, you’ll be able to describe the identity governance capabilities of Microsoft Entra, explain Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management (PIM), describe the capabilities of Microsoft Entra Identity Protection, and explain Microsoft Entra integration with Microsoft Security Copilot.

Module 7. Describe Microsoft Security Copilot
In this module, you will get acquainted with Microsoft Security Copilot. You are introduced to some basic terminology, how Microsoft Security Copilot processes prompts, the elements of an effective prompt, and how to enable the solution.

Module 8. Describe the core infrastructure security services in Azure
In this module, you explore many different services and features of Azure that can help protect your networks, assets, and resources, including DDoS Protection, Azure Firewall, network security groups, and more. You’ll also learn about Azure Key Vault and why you would use this feature to keep secrets safe.

Module 9. Describe security management capabilities of Azure
After completing this module, you should be able to describe Microsoft Defender for Cloud, explain how security policies and initiatives improve cloud security posture, and describe how the three pillars of Microsoft Defender for Cloud help protect against cyberthreats and vulnerabilities.

Module 10. Describe the security capabilities of Microsoft Sentinel
In this module, you’ll learn about the different security defenses that are available to protect your company’s digital estate. You’ll explore how Microsoft Sentinel provides a single solution for alert detection, threat visibility, proactive hunting, and threat response. Finally, you'll be introduced to Microsoft Security Copilot.

Module 11. Describe threat protection with Microsoft Defender XDR
After completing this module, you should be able to describe the Microsoft Defender XDR service, explain how Microsoft Defender XDR provides integrated protection against sophisticated attacks, describe and explore the Microsoft Defender portal, and explain the integration of Microsoft Defender for Copilot with Microsoft Defender XDR.

Module 12. Describe Microsoft’s Service Trust portal and privacy principles
After completing this module, you should be able to describe the offerings of the Service Trust Portal and explain Microsoft’s privacy principles.

Module 13. Describe the data security solutions of Microsoft Purview
After completing this module, you’re able to describe the data classification and sensitivity labeling capabilities of Microsoft Purview Information Protection, explain how Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention helps prevent the inappropriate sharing of sensitive data, describe how Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management and adaptive protection help minimize internal risks, explain how Microsoft Purview Data Security Posture Management provides unified visibility into data risks, and describe how Microsoft Purview Data Security Investigations helps organizations investigate data security incidents.

Module 14. Describe the data compliance solutions of Microsoft Purview
After completing this module, you should be able to describe Audit and eDiscovery in Microsoft Purview, describe Microsoft Purview Compliance Manager, explain Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance, and describe Microsoft Purview Records Management

Module 15. Describe the data governance solutions of Microsoft Purview
After completing this module, you should be able to describe the benefits of data governance, describe the Microsoft Purview Data Map, and explain the key features of the Microsoft Purview Data Catalog.

Final Exam
To earn your certification from Lumo365 Academy, you must successfully pass the Final Exam at the end of the course. This exam is designed to evaluate your understanding of the key concepts, skills, and modules covered throughout the training program. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass the Final Exam. Students who do not meet this passing score will need to review the course material and retake the exam in order to qualify for certification. You are allowed a maximum of 3 retake attempts only. Upon achieving a passing score of 80% or higher, you will be awarded your official Lumo365 Academy certification, recognizing your successful completion of the program and your demonstrated competency in the subject matter.
